Guided Component Testing

Guided Component Testing Just Got Even More Powerful

Expanded Coverage. New Manufacturer. More Confidence in Your Diagnostic Decisions.

Experience the power of the latest software.

Modern vehicle diagnostics demands more than just reading fault codes, it requires clarity, confidence, and the ability to verify what’s really happening at the component level.
With the latest software release, Fast‑Track® Guided Component Tests continue to deliver exactly that, now with expanded coverage and all-new testing capability for Porsche vehicles.
The latest software release delivers new guided component test procedures and detailed component location images, helping technicians diagnose with greater speed and precision.

Why You Need Component Testing in Your Diagnostic Workflow

As vehicle technology evolves, so does the complexity of diagnosing faults accurately. Relying solely on scan data can lead to assumptions, unnecessary part replacement, and increased repair time.

Fast-Track® Guided Component Tests is a diagnostic software feature that powers your tool to surpass the capabilities of others, and in the latest software release it's got better, providing a structured, consistent way to evaluate components by delivering:

  • Known‑good reference patterns

  • Clear component operation insight

  • Visual location guidance

  • Context to support signal interpretation

This allows technicians to move beyond guesswork and make more informed diagnostic decisions, improving efficiency, accuracy, and confidence in every repair.

When It is Required

Component-level testing becomes essential when:

  • Fault codes do not clearly identify the root cause

  • Intermittent issues are present
  • Signal-related faults need verification
  • Multiple components interact within a system

In these scenarios, understanding how a component operates, and being able to verify that behavior, can make the difference between a correct diagnosis and unnecessary parts replacement or repairs.

What’s Hot in the Latest Software

NEW Manufacturer Alert: Porsche

Guided Component Tests coverage has been expanded to include 2016–2024 Porsche 911, Macan, and Cayenne models.

The latest diagnostic software release expands coverage to include a brand-new manufacturer, introducing:

  • All‑new Guided Component Tests

  • Detailed component location images
  • Expanded system coverage across key vehicle platforms

This addition provides technicians with the tools and insight needed to confidently diagnose vehicles that have traditionally been more challenging in the aftermarket.

New Functionality

2016-2024 Porsche® 911, Macan, Cayenne

The latest update includes all-new Guided Component Tests for 911, Macan, Cayenne which includes:

  • Comprehensive component testing coverage
  • Detailed location images for faster identification
  • Known‑good waveform references for accurate comparison
  • Improved visibility into system behavior

This enhanced support helps simplify diagnostics on complex systems, reducing time spent locating components and improving overall repair efficiency.

Feature Highlight

On a 2018 Porsche Macan 3.0L, the Camshaft Position (CMP) Intake Sensor Bank 1, can be identified using engine compartment overview and detailed imagery directly in Guided Component Tests.

The CMP sensor is a Hall‑Effect sensor, producing a digital square‑wave signal used by the control module to determine camshaft position.

This signal is critical for:

  • Fuel injection timing

  • Cylinder identification
  • Engine synchronization

The sensor is typically located at the front of each cylinder head cover, with signal access available at the connector. The image below shows a CMP Sensor Signature Test for the 2018 Porsche Macan 3.0L, illustrating a known‑good waveform.

When using a diagnostic tool equipped with an oscilloscope (2‑ or 4‑channel), selecting the relevant test automatically configures the scope for the specific vehicle application. This helps reduce setup time and ensures consistent test conditions.

Guided Component Tests provide additional context by delivering:

  • Component operation and system role
  • Accurate component location information
  • Known‑good and known‑bad waveform references
  • Supporting insight to aid signal interpretation
  • Additional service and repair-related guidance where applicable

By presenting this information alongside the captured waveform, technicians can better understand how the CMP sensor behaves under normal operating conditions and identify irregularities within the system.
